Ethnography In and Of the Archive, with Natalie Rothman

This session will consider what ethnography can bring to the study of archives, and what archives can bring to ethnographic study.

About this event

Please join the Ethnography Lab for our upcoming Methods Café, “Ethnography In and Of the Archive,” featuring Professor Natalie Rothman.

Date/Time: March 8, 2022, 12 -1 pm ET

Location: Zoom

This session will consider what ethnography can bring to the study of archives, and what archives can bring to ethnographic study. Taking as a starting point Rothman’s research into the trans-imperial circulation of textual practices, practitioners, and artifacts across chanceries in seventeenth-century Istanbul, much of the session will be devoted to questions that emerge from participants’ own field sites and areas of interest.
