This working group is cohosted by the Ethnography Lab and the Centre for Imaginative Ethnography at York University, and led by Dr. Hartblay and Magdalena Kazubowski-Houston (York University). The working group will launch this winter term with several events, and follows Dr. Hartblay’s discussion of her ethnographic theatre project in the Ethnography Lab last fall. The first event is a presentation by Dr. Kazubowski-Houston in the Ethnography Lab (Jan 17th) on her own research creation performance ethnography projects. That event will be followed by three workshops at York University in a blackbox theatre space led by Hartblay and Kazubowski-Houston, in which participants are invited to experiment with performance ethnography exercises drawn and adapted from works by D. Soyini Madison. The workshops are tentatively scheduled for Friday afternoons throughout the term: February 7, March 13, and April 24. The season will close in May with a panel discussion with participants in the Ethnography Lab to reflect on the term. Details TBA. Please contact Dr. Hartblay for more information. All those interested in learning more about performance ethnography or enlivening their ethnographic practice through performance exercises are invited to participate.
