Ethnographic methods are increasingly finding purchase outside of the university as anthropologists venture into non-academic settings. The Applied Cluster aims to work with students who are interested in the applications of ethnography beyond academe, including in public, non-profit, and private sectors. The emphasis is on concrete tool and skill-building, strategy including methodology and ethics, and execution, as well as on possible formal and informal internships, collaborations, and partnerships with non-academic employers or partners. Activities will include roundtable discussions, presentations of ‘case studies’ from those who have relevant experience, networking events, and skill-building workshops in areas such as consulting skills and business development.
