Please join us for the first workshop of the Performance Ethnography Working Group, a joint initiative of the Centre for Imaginative Ethnography at York University and the Ethnography Lab at the University of Toronto. The workshop will take place this Friday, February 7th from 2-5pm.
Please RSVP for the workshop here, so that we can anticipate how many people to expect and plan our activities accordingly.
Workshop information:
Friday, February 7th from 2-5pm in the Sensorium Research Loft at York University
At this first workshop, we will make introductions, discuss foundational questions regarding the history and practice of performance ethnography, and do a group exercise that explores the collaborative process of transposing of meaning from observation to notation to performance. Participants are invited to read in advance the attached chapter by Dr. Kazubowski-Houston about her own performance ethnography practice. Please wear comfortable clothes and bring a notebook/writing utensil or digital writing device.
All are welcome to attend, regardless of familiarity with ethnography, performance ethnography, or performance; the activities will be pitched to be of interest regardless. This is the first of three workshops this semester. You may attend all of the workshops or just one.
The Sensorium Research Loft is located on the 4th floor of the Goldfarb Centre for Fine Art at York University. The address of the Goldfarb Centre is 86 Fine Arts Rd. Here is a Google Maps Link to the building location. Here is a digital map of the York Campus. The building is a 5 minute mostly flat walk from the York University TTC station.
