“Meet Our Lab”: 2021-22 academic year kickoff

The University of Toronto Ethnography Lab invites you to our first event of the 2021-22 academic year.

We invite you to meet our lab members, hear about current projects and upcoming events, and imagine with us what ethnography might be.

The world is in crisis. Ecological catastrophe, increased economic precarity, a resurgence of white supremacy, physical and psychic exhaustion worsened by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic seem to be hedging us in on all sides. Among the radical promises of ethnography is its unique capacity to use detailed descriptions of current and historical social conditions to provide an opening, an otherwise, to possible forms of life that are perhaps more equitable, just, and sustainable.

Please join the Ethnography Lab (EL) for an informal introduction to our lab members and their current projects. Special guest, Dr. William Stafford, Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Visual Studies (UTM), an affiliate at EL, will be offering a mini lecture on his recent work in India. We will also hear from current Working Groups at EL and about upcoming events at EL for the 2021-22 academic year.

As a participatory, member-driven space, the Ethnography Lab is generated by those who participate at the Lab. This event is an opportunity to answer and imagine answers to questions such as: How might you get in involved at EL? What kinds of projects do we support? What opportunities for collaboration are available? What is ethnography and what might we make from it?

Come and imagine with us a future for ethnographic research and its dissemination!Register here: https://www.eventbrite.ca/…/meet-our-lab-kick-off-2021…

Registrants will receive the Zoom info the day of the event. For questions or comments please email us at ethnography.lab@utoronto.ca.
